Oumnia by Nivine Maktabi is a boutique concept store, where the Tradition and the Modernity shake hands over Unique Designs.
Being part of a family that has built its foundations and core in the world of Carpets over three generations, it is with great pride that I have been able to honor this tradition, and capture its essence while adding my own brand of modernity.
During my Studies at Sotheby’s in Oriental Carpets and Textiles, I was able to improve my skills as a designer and develop what I think of as “a Culture of Decorative Carpets and Kelims with a designer touch", a collection which blend in contemporary designs while still preserving the traditional methods, motifs and techniques of carpet weaving.
Since opening in 2006, I have commissioned a wide range of the limited addition items in the store including: mixed media wall hangings, decorative handmade floor coverings, delicate cashmere shawls amongst other colourful vintage home accessories that I make in collaboration with local gifted artisans across Lebanon, Persia and Asia.
